Our employees are the key to our success. The seasoned staff at our Dallas laboratory have combined totals of over 90 years experience in asbestos analysis and over 25 years experience in mold, microbiological and fungal analysis. Our staff also possess a wide variety of experience in microscopy, photography, petrography, mineralogy, geology, chemistry, and microbiology. All are dedicated to providing consistently high quality services for our customers, in a timely manner.

Steve Moody is the President, Lab Director, and an active asbestos analyst. Steve has a M.S. degree in Geology, numerous certifications in asbestos and electron microscopy, over 20 years experience in asbestos analysis and laboratory management, plus extensive experience in PLM, PCM, TEM, SEM, and EPMA. Steve is also a Vietnam veteran.

Rebecca Lutz, the Microbiology Laboratory Manager, has a B.S. degree in Microbiology and 18 years experience in fungal research and mold analysis including significant ex Staff perience in quality assurance / quality control , procedure and product development, training, regulatory issues and laboratory management.

Bruce Crabb, the Asbestos Laboratory Manager, has a B.S. degree in Geology with 12 years of experience in asbestos analysis and laboratory management plus 7 years of experience supporting a variety of other test and measurement applications. He is an active analyst, has been a course instructor for PLM asbestos analysis and has completed numerous technical courses on optical and electron microscopy, feature analysis, analytical instrumentation, and energy dispersive x-ray analysis.

All of our analysts are required to successfully complete a formal training program applicable to the method being performed. All analysts begin their duties at SMMS in a rigorous apprenticeship-type of program with a combination of theoretical and practical instruction. Each analyst must demonstrate their proficiency in both the theory and the practice of the methods and instrumentation before being allowed to analyze samples. Even then, 100% QC is performed on all samples until technical and practical proficiency is fully demonstrated.
